one big kitchen
July 20, 2010
in a very unusual layout, an opened living room becomes a contemporary kitchen with a long dining table, a cook top stove, and even a sink. designer Ruard Veltman explanation is beautifully simple:
"...So many people are scared to live in their living room. They've got a formal living room and dining room in the front of the house and they end up living in the back, in the kitchen. I dreamed of a house where you really do cook and eat and live in one room."

what a beautiful kitchen!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I am usually not a fan of the rustic look but this is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteOh...my dream house. But I don't think it's possible to have a minimalist, clutter-free house until the kids are OUT. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, I seriously want to live there!
ReplyDeleteThe lights above the table are my favorite part. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love this look. It's so airy and the open.
ReplyDeleteAMAZING kitchen!!!! envious over here!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS!! I even love the name "a modern farmhouse"..
ReplyDeleteLove the lights and the contrast between wood tones and white...So lovely!!!!
ReplyDeleteIn our new house we've eliminated the formal living room and dining room to make the rooms we use on a daily basis bigger and to make sure we're not wasting space with rooms we hardly use.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea behind stone on the long table.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who converted her living room into dining room. She has a long table and a small chair. then she has the kitchen next to it. At first I thought it was strange for such arrangement, but like the article said, you do spend most of your time in the kitchen!

What a light and yet non-minimalist kitchen, absolutely gorgeous. I am all for living in your kitchen and was always keen for ours to be the centre of our home.

I am already envisioning all of the delish meals I could make is this open, function kitchen! Swoon!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I love to entertain, we just don't have the space to do it right now. But when we finally have our dream home we are determined to have a tiny living room, probably more as a coat room and then have the kitchen as the main area where we can all gather. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI read this article in the mag and just died over this glorious, fabulously designed kitchen. I want it as my own!
