on being fit.

June 27, 2012

I can't barely remember the brazilian days where I would bike to the gym everyday. Rappelling, climbing, swimming, running, rowing and tanning... I was on the go - always. I was active, on a diet and cared a lot about being fit. Almost nine years later I am married, a mother of two and the most out of shape ever. During my second pregnancy I had legs, back and neck problems and I found myself looking for that motivation again. More than that, I found myself dreaming about being healthy and having body, heart and soul aligned. This past week I made a commitment and signed up for a long-term gym membership. So far I am excited with the sore muscles I've got. It's not easy to add one more 'to-do' to the list but the huge feeling of accomplishment after working out makes it all worth it. The hard part is only getting out of the house. I feel like I'm taking care of myself again, hopeful and happy with the possibilities of a renewed me. so tell me, are you on the go?

  4. i related to this as well! i don't have children, but i definitely not as in shape as i was about three years ago. it's crazy how quickly your body loses it's state of being fit and healthy once you stop participating in the necessary activities (working out, eating right).

i'm trying really hard to workout and be mindful of what i eat these days and it is really, really tough. especially the eating part, for me, because i LOVE really tasty food!

  6. haha- well I had major abdominal surgery a few weeks ago so I'm the OPPOSITE of on the go, which (after my first surgery) I thought would be really hard because of how active I generally am, but until I was healed (or until I finish healing this time) I don't even desire to do more than walk around the block and back. I'll have to live vicariously through you. Good luck!

  8. Good for you! It feels good to get back into the routine, doesn't it? I had finally gotten into a good routine a few months ago and starting learning to play tennis (which I love!). Then, 5 minutes into a game I tore my calf muscle and couldn't do anything for several weeks... it was horrible. I'm now back into it and being careful, and it feels good! I've been using an app to keep track of calories so that I don't overeat (I was weighing the most that I had in awhile), and I've lost about 8 pounds, although it has taken a long time with the injury. It's funny to look back. I took it for granted when I had all the time in the world to hike, bike, walk, and go to the gym. Now it's something that I have to really make a priority so that it will happen. I hope you're able to keep it up!

    1. oh wow, life is really testing your commitment!
I guess we all take good health for granted somehow. the hard thing for me is actually to have a firm and constant routine. just getting out of the house with two kids for an one hour work out it's a very difficult thing. but I am getting better at it and determined to get healthier. posting it here just helps me to keep a better track ;)

  9. I just got back into going to the gym and working out 3-4 times a week. I feel better and have so much more energy in general. Trying to keep it up for so many reasons. Generally feel so good though. It's nice to have a routine because otherwise I think of all different excuses to not go.
