been thinking of bunting lately - and baby girl names. you see, being from brazil makes choosing a name something a little too complicated. there are few brazilian ones that I really love but that sound completely different here, the pronunciation completely changes the name.

the funny thing is that on my first pregnancy the name just came to me. as easy as in a dream. i woke up and her tiny face was there, telling me she was olivia. i was in love with it, had no doubts or wishes to find something else.

this time around i am still waiting for a name that makes my heart tickles.

as for the buntings, being a little over two months away from giving birth, it's time to get the nursery all set up and cute. fun times picking colors, patterns and tiny decor.

i am sorry for the absence this last week but life sometimes can test us with no notice at all. I've been dealing with a serious health challenge of someone i truly love for the past month and feel quite drained. it's really overwhelming to realize how much everything can come to a stop when we are scared. life just goes on pause, on revision and promises of doing better, for us and others.

this dear person is safe now. alive and getting well. and so is my heart - filled with gratitude for every breath. the more i live the more i learn that what really matters in this life is love. towards us and everybody else.

good morning lovelies! tomorrow I head back home to seattle from brazil. after a long two months vacation in the sun, I feel excited to get back to life even though there are also sadness for living family behind. amongst the things I will miss the most is the constant blue sky up high. it's a pretty amazing feeling to open the window early in the morning for so many days straight and get to see no clouds. just deep blue and bright. may life keep on blessing me with so much love

so my last ultrasound went great. everything is normal and the baby is healthy. but now sitting down. which makes it hard to be 100% sure of bump's gender.

on my first pregnancy I always knew what it would be. I knew Olivia was coming and even how she looked like. I had no doubts and told everybody I'd seen a little girl running around. her presence came to my life before her tiny body was in mine.

this time around I know it too. but in a silent kind of way. I am quiet and in peace waiting to confirm what's in my heart. I don't think I actually needed the ultrasound - but olivia and her sibling will be sharing a room, so it's nice to be sure and get to play around with a nursery theme.

in the end, my wish is for health. a perfect human being. the most precious gift.

today I have an ultrasound scheduled. the doctor performing it will be my dad. it'll be the second time we try because baby was shy and had the legs crossed on first attempt. now I am going to find out the sex of my little one on screen, because in my heart I already know - mother's instinct. still thinking if I will keep it a secret on blog land.

for now, in complete awe after discovering fabulous children's clothier flora and henri.
being 23 weeks along and not knowing the gender of my new little one yet made me wish I was having them both. how spectacular is this new collection? it for sure translates my baby taste. the best part yet? their only location is back home in seattle - a shopping trip is for sure planned.

my lately state of bliss is immensely related to motherhood. around five weeks ago I decided to come home - in brazil, where I grew up - to have a well deserved rest before baby number two arrives.
me and baby number one are in for a two month fun in the sun - which means hubby got left behind. and that is the only sad part.

the amount of love I feel for my little girl is inexplicable big and surpasses all kinds of obstacles and hard work involved in being her mom. I've been able to soak her up and enjoy her fully.

her 3rd birthday is coming up next month and I am in totally love with this stage. how special can these little beings get? such a baby still but surprising me with everyday wonderfulness.

to you - my libi lou - all the love in the world.
may we keep learning on how to brave the storms so we can live the rainbows.

hunting for good days

the last seven days in seattle have been rainy and cold. there are more of those on the forecast.
gray winter days and feeling crazy sleepy from early pregnancy stage can go very well together.
but not in a good way.
I would much rather not feel sick all the time and get to feel cold outside, than to stay warm and drowsy inside.
january is usually when I miss 'home' the most. warm and tropical brazil. and I feel like moving somewhere else - where the sun shines more often. but then the thought of starting life all over again, quite some work and never a good time.

and my question to you all: are you happy where you are?

here's to a weekend of getting my wellies on, breathing some clean air and renewing the spirit.

over the weekend I received my february issue of real simple magazine.
with an article about the 30 healthiest foods and a healthy eating plan for the new year,
I was happy to see that my family eats most of what's on the list. but not as much as I want us to.
so, I stocked my kitchen with veggies, fruits and grains and made up a weekly meal menu.
it's been easier, happier and definitely healthier around the house.

I arrived in the united states exactly 7 years and three weeks ago. landing here in december made my heart fall in love with christmas even more. you see, this time of the year in Brazil is high summer. so all I knew growing up was that santa should probably go get some shorts. :)

the snow, the music, the cutting of my own pine tree, and even the cold weather made this time of year have a whole new sense in my head. even though it's a hard thing to be away from family, christmas is now definitely a holiday that makes me feel like this is home.

an then the new year... remember that brazil in january means summer... with no signs of cold temperatures anywhere to be found. memories of a good new year's eve to me includes vacation, beaches, tropical food, flip flops, bikinis and ice cream! the tradition is for everybody to wear white, to bring peace and renovations in the new year to come.

now that's how my heart will be welcoming 2011, all bundled up, but filled with warm wishes of peace and happiness to everyone.

tomorrow morning we are going to get our xmas tree. by the end of this weekend our home will smell like pine, there will be sparkles every where, the lights will be shining, my baby will be giggling, the cookies jar will be full, holidays songs playing at all times, first xmas cards up, few special wrappings under the tree and most important: my fireplace remodel will be done!

yesterday was a big and important day to me because mr J and I had our six years anniversary. the picture above is the gift I made him... even though we didn't do anything like a date out or a romantic trip somewhere, we had the most special time just being together at home enjoying a simple meal and a busy little girl around us. times like these make me feel blessed and grateful for having such love in my life.

so... fall colors and leaves are gone and christmas is just around the corner. which means its time to decorate! (lovely new blog header =)
I am excited on going to cut our tree down this coming weekend. since it's way too cold over here and the heater is on 24/7 - the poor tree has to work extra hard to last til xmas day.
this year will be my little one's first 'actual believing in santa' holiday and we are all over the place getting the bells and magic all together. dad will walk on the rooftop for her!
for the past years I've been collecting few items on a red/gold palette. but always find myself trying to add a rusty silver to the mix. which leads to a question: what are your holiday colors this year?

almost fall

we are here! alive, well and busy. really busy. this past month has been absolutely crazy. work has picked up in a surprising and good way, turning our personal lives upside down. we're deeply sorry for being absent for so long, but to be honest, a break was needed.

so summer is on it's last days and we are ready to enter a new chapter at house 09. a fall moment. filled with inspiring art, interesting designs, beautiful photographs and lots and lots of fun content. we are also particularly thrilled to be welcoming a season that brings crunchy leaves, pumpkin carving, crispy mornings, a thousand reds, bonfire gatherings, hoodies, booties and warm cozy sweaters.

on the agenda for this week, a wedding of dear friends ♥ ♥ . sooo excited for saturday! a huge honor to be present on such a special date for incredible special people. plus I'm a big butter heart! congrats to you guys - may married life be even more wonderful to you both :)

the famous pompom flowers seen everywhere in blogland made me wish to create! an I did it!! adding a bit of personality and change I decided to make my baby's birthday a bit more special by adding these ornaments trough the house. I looked around and found few paper ones for sale - but they all looked so flimsy. so I purchased yards of linen, sprayed it with rose essential oil, and made the most wonderful fabric flowers around!

So, this friend of mine is going through a RAW DIET – yep, she only eats raw food, and you would not believe how healthy she looks. She lost some weight, she’s got tones of energy, and she is trying some pretty interesting foods. Among them is the Magic Goji Berries. This little raisin-like wonder from Tibet is nature’s goodness in a small package. Vitamin C, antioxidants, better eye sight, improved sexual health, I mean, the list of good stuff these little berries do just keep on going.

Try them on salads, bake them in muffins, or simply sprinkle a few over your favorite morning cereal. They are delicious!

thursday night the family went out on a summer date. Music in the Parks brings free live music outdoors. and let me tell you - it was a dance party! my baby girl had lots of fun, the marina was beautiful during sunset hours and the music unbelievably great. and the best part: we got to know artist Leroy Bell, and he rocks! such a great talent and amazing sound. if you're not familiar with his work go HERE.

Okay, so we live in a DIY world, and creating something amazing out of dental floss, corks and a shoe box is becoming somewhat ordinary. Still, once in a while an amazing creation takes us by surprise. Something inventive, beautiful and functional that uses simple and yet controversial materials… and that is precisely what Lori Danelle did. She wanted a new design for her daughter’s bedroom, and with the right idea she was able to create a beautiful environment for her little girls – complete with handmade furniture! Check out their little beds… yes, they are made of regular wood pallets! Darling, rustic and chic.

oh rhubarb!

in an attempt to refresh my sunday with a sweet treat I went on a blog journey after a delicious and inspiring vanilla mousse recipe. not only I found what I was looking for I also discovered the most adorable food blog. Foodbeam is pastry heaven in blog form. and this amazing recipe brings the oh so popular rhubarb. apparently every decent blogger have tried a recipe that includes this pink delish...

Mousse à la vanille et rhubarbe pochée à la grenadine

serves 8

for the rhubarb compote
4 gelatine leaves
750g pink rhubarb stalks
150g caster sugar

Soak the gelatine leaves into cold water.
Peel the rhubarb making sure you keep the peels aside. Slice the stalks roughly, into cube. Then tye the peels into a ball using kitchen string.
Place everything into a pan, and mix in the sugar. Cook over low heat until the rhubarb pieces are soft, and the juices have reduced nicely. Remove the ball of peels, and add the softened (and squeezed) gelatine leaves.
Pour into a 20×20cm container, and allow to set in the fridge.

for the vanilla mousse
200g milk
one vanilla pod
3 egg yolks
50g caster sugar
3 gelatine leaves
200g cream (35% fat)

Place the milk in a pan. Slice the vanilla pod lengthwise, and scrape the seeds. Add to the milk, along with the empty bean.
Cook over medium heat until boiling.
In the meantime, soak the gelatine into cold water.
Then, mix the yolks and sugar until smooth. When the milk is boiling, pour it onto your egg mix, then transfer to a bowl which you set over a pan of boiling water. Cook, mixing all the time until it reaches a temperature of 84°C. Mix in the drained gelatine leaves, and set aside.

Whip the cream to soft peak, then incorporate into the anglaise when it’s not warm to the touch anymore – around 30°C. Immediately pipe the mousse on top of the rhubarb compote. Then smooth the top by gently tapping on a work surface. Set in the freezer overnight.

a little while back I had fun creating an invitation for my baby girl's two years old birthday party! the print came out so fine and the compliments were so many that we decided to come up with a small silhouette stationery collection: shades of you.

cucumber and mint lassi

INGREDIENTS

500g low fat natural yogurt
1 large English cucumber (sliced coarsely)
2-3 handfuls of fresh mint leaves
½ tsp sea salt
few more mint leaves for garnish

METHOD

Place all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.
Share and garnish with mint leaves.

Make 4 small portions.

Meditation 101

For us to become healthier we need to listen to our bodies. And what better way to do that than by learning to quiet our busy minds? Meditation can be intimidating for a beginner, but it does not need to be. All you need is a quiet place to sit, a few minutes of your time (and really, five minutes will do you wonders), and a peaceful cd with soothing music and sounds. And the reward for this investment in yourself? The benefits of mediation are too many to count:
